BEDFORD, Pa. (WTAJ) — The current Sheriff of Bedford County is not running for re-election this year, so the position is open for a newcomer.
There are three people vying for the Republican nomination in this primary: Diane Nelson, who is currently a deputy in the sheriff’s office, Erik Whisker, and Wayne Emerick Jr.
There are no candidates for sheriff listed on the Democratic ballot, so the winner of tonight’s nomination will likely end up being the next Sheriff of Bedford County unless somebody runs a write-in campaign.
Current Sheriff Charwin Reichdelfer is on the ballot this year, but he’s running for County Commissioner this time around.
On the Republican ballot, he’s going up against two current Commissioners Josh Lang and Barry Dallara, and newcomer David Copley.
