What to Expect: Heavy snow, freezing rain and sleet will arrive in Central Pennsylvania Thursday morning. The wintry mix will continue throughout Thursday and into Friday morning. The roads will be icy and slippery. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of our counties besides Jefferson until Friday morning. Jefferson county is under a Winter Weather Advisory.
Timing of Snow/Rain: Somerset and Bedford counties will see the snow and ice first starting around 6:00 a.m. Bedford county will see more snow than freezing rain. Somerset county will receive more freezing rain than snow. That will cause a glaze of ice to stick to roads, trees and power lines.
Cambria, Blair and Huntingdon counties will see the snow and ice arrive around 7:30 a.m. Blair and Huntingdon counties will see more snow than freezing rain. Cambria county will see more freezing rain and ice. That will cause a glaze of ice to stick to roads, trees and power lines.
Clearfield, Centre, Elk, Cameron and Jefferson counties will see mainly snow with some freezing rain move in around 9:30 a.m. Jefferson county will see a little bit more freezing rain and ice than the other northern counties. The roads will be snow packed and slippery.
Midnight Friday: Any freezing rain or sleet leftover will turn into snow as the temperatures drop into the upper 20s. Snow will continue to fall until Friday 6:00 a.m. After 6:00 a.m. there will still be snow showers lingering around midday.
What To Take Away: The important information to take away from this is that roads WILL be icy and slick. Take it slow on all roads Thursday and Friday morning. If you can stay off the roads Thursday and Friday that will be best but if you can’t take it extra slow. With freezing rain and ice in the forecast some tree ,limbs and power lines could come down.
