The Blizzard of February 2010 IS otherwise known as Snowmageddon.

This blizzard had the perfect setup to bring crippling amounts of snow to the northeast. There was an area of high pressure to our north that locked in colder air in our area. There was also an area of high pressure to the west that allowed a low-pressure system to develop in the Gulf and slowly travel up the eastern part of the country tapping into the warm moist air of the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean.

Snow extended from western North Carolina through the middle of Pennsylvania and up the eastern seaboard. The most crippling snow was 20 to 35 inches from southern PA through parts of West Virginia extending eastward toward Southern New Jersey. This was enough snow to bring interstate and air traffic to a stop.

Here in PA the highest amount of snow was 31 inches in Uppers Strasburg. Somerset recorded 30 inches. Philadelphia had 28.5 inches of snow. Pittsburgh had 21.1 inches of snow. Harrisburg reported 18 inches of snow. State College had 14 inches, while Lehigh Valley only had 7 inches of snow.

This was the second of four snow storms that brought a record amount of snow over the course of the winter.
