MILESBURG, CENTRE COUNTY — Area youngsters in one community may not get any candy Wednesday night.

In Milesburg, you’ll find a sign that reads no door to door trick or treating this year.

Borough council members tell residents they’re not cancelling Halloween, but a lot of folks are left confused; some even angry.

Shades of orange across the region.  It’s almost time for trick or treat.  But come Wednesday night, Milesburg might look more like a ghost town.

A haunting sign says it all:  no door to door trick or treat.  For decades, borough council approved a time period for young candy collectors to make the rounds.  But this year, local leaders did not set a date or time.

Some residents want trick-or-treat decisions left to their neighbors.

“I think it should be up to the parents, the families.  If they want their kids to go out,” said Milesburg Resident Robert Letterman.

The borough’s policy change has would-be frighteners scratching their heads.

“The kids are confused.  I had some kids at the house last night who were fighting over Milesburg trick or treat.  I called borough hall, they’re not saying it’s not cancelled, they’re not saying they’re having it.  I think they’re blowing it off,” said Milesburg Resident Reba Mann.

We’re learning some youngsters are bound for Boggs Township to scare up some sweet treats.

Others will head to the local fire hall for the light the night celebration; an effort to prevent Halloween’s passing in Milesburg.

Some neighbors in Milesburg say they’re going to leave their lights on, and plan to give out candy if any young ghosts or goblins show up at their door.

Meanwhile, several council members did not return our phone calls Tuesday.
