WILKES-BARRE, Pa. (AP) — A northeastern Pennsylvania woman has been convicted in what authorities called false rape accusations against two state troopers.
Jurors in Luzerne County deliberated for about a half-hour Wednesday before convicting 38-year-old Christine Cromer of making false reports and unsworn falsification.
Luzerne County prosecutors said Cromer falsely accused a trooper of raping her in a police cruiser in November 2016 and also provided false information in a protection-from-abuse application when she said she was raped by another state trooper.
The former Mohegan Sun Pocono cocktail waitress insisted Wednesday that her story was true despite inconsistencies cited by prosecutors. Her attorney accused police of a “shoddy investigation.”
Prosecutors alleged that her husband had been banned from the casino and the allegations were part of a plot to retaliate against state police.
