Few thing in life evoke the spirit of romance like a bearskin rug featuring the head and limbs of KFC’s mascot Colonel Sanders, but that’s just what the company is banking on by rolling out the fluffy rug for Valentine’s Day.
KFC’s marketing department has been having some fun recently by selling gravy scented candles and a Christmas firelog that fills the house with the aroma of fried chicken.
Now, they’re hoping you and your date will snuggle up in front of a fireplace with a bottle of champagne and a faux-bearskin rug featuring the Colonel’s likeness.
No, really.
However, to get one of these unique pieces of decor, you’ll have to win it. Go to Reddit and submit your “unique and wacky” content, which can include:
- Graphic design pros, and amateurs who think they are, can enter a photoshop battle to transform an image of the Colonel Sanders rug into a humorous, outlandish or romantic digital masterpiece.
- Those possessing the gift of the written word can enter a storytelling challenge – KFC sets the scene, and entrants will be asked to complete the narrative, transforming it into a romantic vignette.
- Aspiring artists can try their hand, literally, at a drawing duel by submitting a one-of-a-kind art piece depicting their ideal romantic evening, inspired by the Colonel Sanders faux rug, of course.
Only three winners will claim the limited-edition rug, which will come with two fried-chicken pajama onesies, a gift card for KFC for two for a year, and a yearly subscription to an online streaming service.
“I’m no dating expert, but the only thing I can think of that’s more romantic than eating fried chicken on Valentine’s Day, is eating fried chicken on a faux-bearskin rug created in the likeness of the greatest chicken salesman of all time — Colonel Sanders,” Andrea Zahumensky, U.S. chief marketing officer of KFC, said in a news release.
The contest will close on Sunday, February 10 at 11:59 p.m. EST and the deserving lucky-in-love winners will be notified on Monday, February 11.
