Fugitive wanted in connection with 2017 murder now in custody

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A suspect that was on Bristol County’s most wanted fugitive list for allegedly covering up a murder is scheduled to appear in court Friday.

Police said they received several tips from the public that led to the arrest of 47-year-old John Medeiros who has been on the run since October 2017.

Medeiros was found by police Thursday morning hiding in a closet in a New Bedford apartment.

Police said Medeiros is accused of hiding evidence in connection to the death of 47-year-old Angel Camacho, who collapsed in the middle of the road and was found with a bruised face and several stab wounds 18 months ago.

According to police, 21-year-old David Antonetty-Almestica allegedly stabbed Camacho to death.

Medeiros is charged with accessory to murder after the fact. He is also facing charged of unarmed robbery and larceny from unrelated situations.
