The Pike County Historical Society is home to a piece of presidential history.
An authentic 36-star American flag that was originally hanging in the booth at Ford’s Theatre the night Abraham Lincoln was assassinated is permanenty on display at The Columns Museum in Milford.
The flag was partially placed under Lincoln’s head as they waited for him to be moved across the street to be cared for.
Afterwards, Thomas Gourlay, a part-time stage manager and actor at the theatre, took the flag and eventually passed it down to his daughter, who moved to Milford.
She passed it down to her only son, who donated the flag to the Pike County Historical Society in 1954.
