The Philadelphia Eagles announce they have cut a forme Penn State quarterback from the roster.
Matt Lombardo from NJ.com reports Christian Hackenberg is once again looking for an NFL home:
The #Eagles have released Christian Hackenberg, source says.— Matt Lombardo (@MattLombardoNFL) August 31, 2018
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero confirms the news Friday afternoon as well:
The #Eagles are waiving QBs Christian Hackenberg and Joe Callahan, per sources. No surprise, they’ll roll with three on the Week 1 roster: Carson Wentz, Nick Foles and Nate Sudfeld. Still no official word on who starts Thursday night against the #Falcons.— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) August 31, 2018
Hackenberg has not taken a regular-season NFL snap. The New York Jets drafted him in the second round in the 2016 NFL draft. The Jets then traded him to the Oakland Raiders for a seventh-round pick this spring before being cut in June.
The Eagles then signed him three weeks ago. He completed seven of 16 passes for 69 yards and two interceptions Thursday against his former team – the New York Jets.
