The PIAA voted to ban some players from participating in the playoffs during a transfer year.
The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association – or PIAA – held a meeting in State College Wednesday.
Below is a recap of changes the PIAA will now put into place:
The Board of Directors voted to implement a new transfer rule. Athletes in 10th, 11th or 12th grade will have to sit out of the playoffs during a transfer year – according to Chris Harlan of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review
The #PIAA board of directors approves new transfer restrictions, voting to install a competitive-balance formula and adding a rule that makes 10th, 11th and 12th grade transfers sit out the playoffs during the year of transfer. #TribHSSN— Chris Harlan (@CHarlan_Trib) July 18, 2018
Athletes would be able to challenge a postseason ban to their PIAA District Committee with “exceptional and unusual circumstances.”
The board also decided to implement a competitive balance formula. This means, teams who have consistent success in the PIAA playoffs and have a higher number of transfer players will be forced to move up a classification.
The board also voted to raise baseball pitch counts to 105 per game and 210 per week. Each game will need an official pitch counter as well.
