After Ben McAdoo signed on to be head coach of the New York Giants and Tom Coughlin didn’t see it as a fit, the Philadelphia Eagles finally named Doug Pederson their new coach.
Most recently, Pederson was offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.
But he has a past with the Eagles. He was a quarterback for them in 1999 and the quarterbacks coach from 2011-2013, before leaving with Andy Reid to Kansas City.
“Andy Reid is a mentor. I’ll be the first one to tell you that he is,” said Pederson. “But I’m also here to tell you that this is not an Andy Reid football team and it’s not a Doug Pederson football team. This is the Philadelphia Eagle football team and so I’m going to bring my spin on it. I’m going to bring my personally to it and we’re going to make it our team.”
Pederson didn’t waste any time building up his staff. A handful on the offensive side of the ball will remain in Philadelphia, but the new ball coach announced that Jim Schwartz will be the team’s defensive coordinator, who was most recently held the same position for Buffalo in 2014 under then coach Doug Marrone.
“And I’m excited to have him, his track record, and his defenses that have led the National Football League,” added Pederson. “I’ve had a chance to coach against him and I’m glad he’s on our team now.”
