Ohio State coach Urban Meyer is on paid administrative leave after domestic abuse accusations against his former assistant coach came to light.
Zach Smith is a former wide receivers coach at Ohio State. Meyer fired Smith on July 23 after reporter Brett McMurphy reported on accusations from Smith’s ex-wife. McMurphy’s report includes people around Meyer might have known of the domestic abuse.
The benching of Meyer revolves around two alleged arrests of Smith in 2009 and 2015. Meyer said at Big Ten Media Days he knew about the 2009 incident and reported to his superiors. He said he did not know of the 2015 incident.
Smith did an interview with ESPN Friday. During the airing of the interview, Meyer released this statement saying he did, in fact, know of the 2015 incident and “followed protocol.”
