Penn State’s Ament sets NCAA record for assists

The Big Ten Player of the Year continues to rack up the awards this season.

Penn State junior Grant Ament finished Sunday’s Big Ten Tournament championship game with four assists giving him 78 on the year. The 78 assists marks a new NCAA record for assists in a season.

According to a Penn State media release, Ament broke the previous record of 77 held by UMBC’s Steve Marohl in 1992 and Albany’s Lyle Thompson in 2014.

Penn State defeated No. 15 Johns Hopkins in overtime 18-17 to win the programs first Big Ten Tournament title and will be the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
