The Alliance of American Football kicks off play in less than a month and former Penn State quarterback Christian Hackenberg is hoping for a new chapter in his pro football career.

The Memphis Express drafted Hackenberg in its first draft ever in November. Hackenberg is currently one of four quarterbacks competing for the starting job for the Express – coached by Pro Football Hall-of-Famer and former San Francisco 49ers coach Mike Singletary.

Hackenberg will compete with former LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger, former Troy QB Brandon Silvers and former UT-Martin quarterback Troy Cook.

The Express will open the season on Sunday, Feb. 10 at the Birmingham Iron.

Hackenberg spent most of the 2018 NFL season as the practice squad quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals.
