NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — With the NFL Draft comes more security.
Officials from the Tennessee Highway Patrol told News 2, the agency is prepared to assist the Metro Nashville Police Department on the days of the Draft.
“This is a very historical event for Nashville and the State of Tennessee, so we’re putting our best foot forward, as well, to support local government and make sure it’s safe,” THP’s Lt. Bill Miller said.
Lt. Miller said one of THP’s troopers will be inside the emergency operations center as a liaison with Metro Police.
The agency will also have K-9s and their partners at the event to check the area for explosives and other harmful items.
“Anything that is out of the norm, we’ll be looking for that, anything suspicious — packages or backpacks laying around — we’ll also be looking at those also very closely,” Miller said.
According to Lt. Miller, there will be troopers patrolling the area, and if necessary, they will be ready to deploy its helicopters.
THP regularly provides this same level of security for other big events across the state, it’s just a first for this new event in Music City.
