SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. (WTAJ) — The first day of the PIAA State Track and Field Championships got underway Friday afternoon at Shippensburg University.

4×800– Central Cambria finished with the second best qualifying, they move on to finals on Saturday

1600 meter run — Penns Valley Colton Sands also had the second best qualifying completing it in 4 minutes and 24 seconds. He will also head to the finals.

State High’s Lance Hamilton took home the gold medal in the triple-a Triple Jump, 49ft 8 1/2 inches.

Elk County Catholic’s Taylor Newton is a state champ after clearing 5ft 7 inches.

Somerset’s Nick Hyde set a new personal best by three feet tossing 65ft 5 inches.
