One of the area’s most successful girls basketball coaches is currently on a leave of absence according to a school official.

Bishop Carroll High School CEO Lynn Weber provided WTAJ with this statement Thursday night:

“Mr. Bob Gongloff, head coach of Bishop Carroll Girls Basketball, is on a leave of absence. Current Assistant Coach, Amy Oravec, will assume the head coaching responsibility.”

Gongloff has more than 400 career victories as a coach. He led the Bishop Carroll girls to state titles in 2002 and 2003. His teams finished as state runner up in 1996 and 1998.

Gongloff stepped down as coach of Bishop Carroll in 2004 – coached at Penn Cambria – and returned to the Huskies in 2014.

Gongloff did not return a phone call on Wednesday.

Update:

Interim head coach Amy Oravec resigned Saturday according to Weber.
