The Altoona Area High School Mountain Lions have hired a familiar face as its next head football coach.

The school district announced Monday, Vince Nedimeyer Jr. will take over the program. The school board approved the hire Monday evening.

According to the school district’s media release, Nedimeyer attended and coached at Altoona Area High School. Nedimeyer coached as an offensive assistant and quarterbacks coach for the Mountain Lions from 2003-2012. He then coached at Hollidaysburg before returning to Altoona to coach wide receivers in 2015 and 2016.

Nedimeyer played quarterback for Altoona. In the 1997 season, he helped lead the team to an undefeated regular season finishing 12-1. He then went on to play at the University of Rhode Island.

At Rhode Island, he started at quarterback for his final two seasons. In 2001, he helped the Rams to a 8-3 record and a No. 21 ranking in Division I AA.

Nedimeyer is currently the principal at the William P. Kimmel Alternative School and The Learning Express Preschool.
