WW2 Memorial nears completion

Clearfield County has a rich military history. Soon members of the Greatest Generation will be honored in Curwensville.

In Memorial Park, names of veterans dating back to the Civil War are etched in stone. Over the past months, local contractors have been busy erecting a new World War II monument. In this small town over 900 men and women were called to serve.

Borough council president, Doug Bloom had many relatives to fought in WWII, “It’s almost like the history of Curwensville. You look at the names on that memorial, the men and women. They were business leaders. All types of people. My father served, I have four uncles and also an aunt that served. And everyone on our committee had a relative that served in that war.”

20 servicemen died in action. Meantime, Bloom said 19 veterans who fought in WWII are still alive and they are hoping many of them make it back to Curwensville later this year to dedicate the memorial.
