State Senator John Wozniak (D-35th District) announced Wednesday that he was withdrawing as a candidate for reelection to the state Senate.

Wozniak has represented Cambria County in the General Assembly since his election to the state House of Representatives in 1980. He was elected to serve the 35th Senatorial District in 1996.

Wozniak released the following statement on his Facebook page:

“After long discussions with my wife, children, friends and colleagues concerning running for reelection, I have decided to withdraw as a candidate for another term in the state Senate.
“If a person’s life is broken down by seasons, I believe I have been a public servant for a summer and an autumn. God willing, I hope to have several more seasons left and I would like to use them to seek new opportunities, pursue other ventures and life experiences.
“It has been my honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Cambria, Bedford and Clearfield counties. I have championed their needs, wants and hopes for thirty-six years in public life. In doing so, I have made legions of acquaintances and friends and I am truly honored and blessed.
“Our region faces tough challenges and has many needs, but it also has exceptional resources and outstanding people who are up to meeting any test. That is why I was pleased to be involved in large and small projects and to work collaboratively with local, state and federal officials to solve problems. Without the commitment of organized labor, small businesses, nonprofits and the wonderful citizens of this region working together, we would not have achieved success.
“My staff has helped countless constituents over the years and I could not have done my job without them. They have been remarkable. My colleagues in the state Senate have been supportive and helpful, and, even after many tough political battles, I am pleased to call them friends.
“To my supporters, there are not enough words to convey my gratitude; to my detractors, I want to extend my thanks for helping sharpen arguments and justify my decisions so that all have a better understand of my positions.
“Over my many years, of service I have learned about government, being a leader and caring for people. Along the way, I’ve gained insight and even a little bit of wisdom. Although, in a few months my role will be different, I will continue to remain active in Johnstown and the region that has given so much to this kid from the West End.”
