Police in Johnstown are investigating after a body was found along a path right off of a popular hiking and biking trail on Sunday.

Authorities say Kaylene Roedel was the woman found dead.  It happened on the Honan Avenue Hiking and Biking Trail.

Police tell us the 26-year-old Blairsville woman had been reported missing.

“This incident occurred yesterday around 4:30 in the afternoon when her body was found by hikers on the Honan Trail,” Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees confirms.

Lees tells us that no car was found around the trail.  He is ruling Roedel’s death suspicious.

“We’re going to be waiting for microscopic and toxicology studies to be completed and that’s going to take approximately 4 to 6 weeks.”

Last summer was a proud moment for members of the Laurel Highlands Historical Village as they opened the new and improved hiking trail.

The group says the community enjoys it, but the trail has had several problems including vandalism.

The historical village tells WTAJ that they no longer have cameras on the trail for police to reference for any crime.  Cameras were loaned to them to use for three months.

The coroner is asking for the public to be cautious, “I think common sense applies.  Any time you’re walking on a trail, you should use caution.  As soon as we have information we’ll make it available to the public.”

The trail will remain open for the public to use.
