Woman charged in death of PSU professor

A second person is now charged with the murder of Penn State professor Ronald Bettig.

Police took Danielle Geier, 32, of Lemont into custody late Saturday night. She is charged with conspiracy to commit murder, first and third-degree murder and other charges.

Geier was denied bail and was placed in the Centre County Correctional Facility.  Her alleged accomplice, George Ishler, Jr also remains in jail.

According to detectives, the two designed a plot to kill Bettig in hopes of cashing in on a will Bettig had recently signed.

Court documents revealed Ishler and Geier had planned to drown Bettig during a trip to the beach in Delaware.  When that did not happen they came up with another plan on their way home.

Ishler and Geier are reportedly known drug users.  Police say the pair lured Bettig to Hanson Quarry near Centre Hall to retrieve marijuana plants on August 12.  It was there where Ishler allegedly pushed Bettig into the deep quarry. Bettig was about 80 feet to his death.

Police say Ishler and Geier waited three days to report that Bettig was missing.

Angela Hill, Geier’s sister, said at one point Geier was homeless and Bettig let her live in his home.

Hill added that their relationship ultimately turned romantic and Bettig had plans to propose.

The preliminary hearing for Ishler and Geier is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 31st.
