Somerset County is looking to bring more tourism and business to the area.

Windber Borough officials are raising money now to complete an economic feasibility study for a new hotel. So far, they’ve raised about half of their $10,000 goal.

Borough Manager James Furmanchik said the hotel would not only bring more business downtown, it would create jobs, too.

“It would offer the opportunity for some family-sustaining jobs and it would certainly offer some part-time jobs for folks in surrounding Windber to pick up some extra money,” said James Furmanchik, Windber Borough Manager.

The borough is planning a “Cash Bash” fundraising event on Saturday, April 1st to raise the rest of the money for the feasibility study.

The fundraiser will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Windber American Legion.
