What State Police say happened the night of Trooper Landon Weaver’s death

Four days after Trooper Landon Weaver was killed in the line of duty, police have released more information on what happened the night of the shooting.

Jason Robison’s mother sat down with State Police late Dec. 30 and recounted the chilling details of the homicide that happened in her home just hours earlier.

Sherry Robison told police she answered the door when Trooper Landon Weaver came to her home, looking to speak with Jason about violating his protection from abuse order.

Weaver and Robison met in the kitchen, where Robison handed over his phone that had texts proving his violation. He then told Weaver he didn’t want to go back to jail and Weaver suggested they go outside to the porch to talk to his supervisor on the phone and maybe they could work something out, but before that could happen, Robison went inside for a cigarette.

Weaver followed him, then went to wait in the mudroom. Robison then walked into the kitchen where his mother was standing and she said he put a cigarette lighter on the counter and pulled out a gun from his pants; that’s when she heard a pop and saw Trooper Weaver fall to the kitchen floor.

Sherry said she ran to get her boyfriend, Brian Smith, who called 911.

Meanwhile, Jason grabbed his phone and texted his ex-girlfriend, Laura Whitesel, admitting that he committed the crime saying, “I killed the cop. Shot him twice in the head. He is dead. I love you! I always will. Goodbye sweetheart. I’m sorry.”

After a 15-hour manhunt, police shot and killed Robison.
