It was out with the old and in with the new at the Cambria County War Memorial on Wednesday.

“All hands on deck” were needed to help.  It’s not the final piece of the puzzle, but as crews poured the new floor,  a major step was taken towards the end of the renovations for the War Memorial.

“It’s just a continuation of what an amazing thing that happened when we became Hockeyville,” Jim Vasilko, president of Johnstown Construction said.

The money to fund the project came from grants from the state.

“It’s a beautiful example of getting something for your tax dollar.”

Tomahawk officials told WTAJ the new additions will make a big difference for the young players coming to compete in Johnstown.

“It needed replaced with the system and the piping.  Now you have a very modern up-to-date refrigeration system and I think the players will notice a big difference in the floor.”

The floor replacement project  brings a huge economic impact to the city and Tomahawk officials hope it brings additional fans.

It also gives young athletes a unique opportunity.

“We couldn’t be more happier on the Tomahawk side.  The kids just love coming here because there’s a lot of arenas where they play in front of 300 people and you come in here and play in front of 3,000 people.  It really energizes you.”

All of the renovations are expected to be finished by mid-September.
