Walkers from across the region are getting ready to shine a spotlight on the number one cancer killer of men and women in the United States. The Beacon of Light Lung Cancer Benefit Walk will step out Friday August 19 inside the Logan Valley Mall.

This will be the fifth year  walkers will raise funds to help local lung cancer patients with their medical expenses. Lung cancer kills more Americans than colon, breast, prostate, and pancreatic cancer combined.

“There may be a drop in smoking, but there’s not a significant  drop in the incidence of lung cancer and certainly there hasn’t been a major change in the way we handle lung cancer and the survival statistics on lung cancer,” said Dr. George Zlupko,  President of the Lung Disease Foundation of Central Pennsylvania.

Registration for the Beacon of Light Walk is from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a. m. The walk goes from
8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Registration for the event is $10 and all walkers will receive a free Light on Lungs t-shirt. Registration forms are available at the Lung Disease Center, regional businesses and by going to the Foundation’s website.
