A vigil was held today for a gorilla shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo Saturday.

The gorilla, named Harambe, was shot after a 4-year old boy fell 15 feet into the animal’s habitat and came face to face with the 400 pound gorilla.

Harambe stood over him, then dragged him by the arm across the enclosure.

A special animal response team shot Harambe, just 10 minutes after the boy fell because they believed the child’s life was in danger.

The zoo’s director said the loss of Harambe is big for the zoo, but the child was at risk.
