Uber expansion concerns and excites Cambria County residents

On a typical day around Johnstown you can’t find too many cabs in the city.

That is one reason why some people, like Cathy Jo Dicken, think Uber coming to Cambria County could be a huge benefit.

“I think for a lot of people it’ll help.”

Currently most people have to drive their own car, walk, or use public transportation.

“A lot of places the buses don’t go to, for example up on the hill,” Dicken says.  ” My one friend lives back that way and it stops right at the bottom of the hill.”

By using the Uber app, your ride comes to you.  To use the service, you need a phone.  First you have to create an account and download the app.

However, not everyone ready to ride with Uber yet.

“If you give a company like Uber the opportunity to come here people are going to take advantage of that by transporting people, transporting things, and drugs,” Johnstown resident Fugi Johnson says.  “Uber would make the situation worse here in Johnstown.

Johnson tells WTAJ he thinks Johnstown is too small of a city for Uber.

The businesses don’t stay open late enough for Uber to make an impact and it will only take away business in his eyes.

“We need things that are actually going to benefit the city like the transit authority and the cab driving services.  Theses are things that are in the city and can benefit the city through financial revenue gain.  So if you have a company like Uber come in and the revenue all goes to Uber, what did you do for Johnstown besides hurt?”
