Fire officials are trying to figure out what sparked a fire at a multi-family home Monday afternoon in Altoona.

Crews were called to the home on 22nd Street just after 1:00 p.m.

Officials say when they arrived on scene the second floor of the house was filled with smoke.

Fire Chief says Tim Hileman says the fire spread to the roof and was difficult to put out because of power lines.

“Again that limits us how far we can go with the hoses and everything else, so we did have an issue at one point having hoses long enough to get to the attic because we had to pull away from the power lines,” Chief Hileman said.

The American Red Cross and Salvation Army are helping the two families displaced by the fire.

Officials say they believe it was sparked on the second floor.

Right now the damage is estimated to be more than $50,000.
