Two parents who police say locked their young kids in dog cages as punishment were in court Wednesday.
Nicholas, 36, and Linda Chamberlain, were in Central Court in Huntingdon for their preliminary hearings.
The couple were charged on July 22nd, after a month long investigation. State Police say the investigation began on June 19th when police responded to a call in Wood Township of a child refusing to return home from a neighbor’s house.
Police reported the 13-year-old said their six-year-old sibling was locked in a dog cage overnight. The Chamberlains also have a ten-year-old child. The couple allegedly has locked all three in dog cages before.
Both Linda and Nicholas are charged with False Imprisonment and Endangering the Welfare of Children. Nicholas Chamberlain is also facing simple assault for reportedly poking one of the children with a knife, leaving a mark on the child.
Nicholas waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday morning. The next step for him is a formal arraignment before a judge, as long as he doesn’t waive it. As for Linda, the Assistant District Attorney says she just recently got a lawyer so, her hearing has been continued. Linda Chamberlain will be back in court on August 17th.
