An 18-year veteran trooper accused of pulling a gun on his wife is trying to get his bail reduced.

During a hearing today, a state police clerk testified that Terry Jordan, 47, Clearfield, punched her and chipped her teeth while they were having an affair at his apartment near Harrisburg last year.

A psychologist said Jordan is a low risk for future violence. He’d been assigned to the governor’s detail.

A judge is considering whether to reduce Jordan’s $1 million bail.

“It’s excessive. It’s cruel and inhumane punishment to lock the guy up on $1 million bail when there’s people that commit far more serious crimes in this county and other counties that get far less bail,” says defense attorney Bryan Walk.

District Attorney William Shaw argued that Jordan is a threat to his wife and others, saying it’s an issue of “risk management,” and that the trial is set for the beginning of October.

The judge will issue a decision later.
