Travyon Martin’s mother speaks at Penn State

The mother of slain 17 year-old Trayvon Martin spoke at Penn State Monday.

Sybrina Fulton has been speaking out against violence and has become an advocate for building safer communities since her son’s death nearly four years ago.

She addressed a variety of topics, including violence against children, diversity and inclusion.

Martin was fatally shot by George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch volunteer, in Florida in 2012. Fulton co-founded the Trayvon Martin Foundation after her son’s death and she travels on behalf of the foundation to address racial injustice and gun violence.

The theme of this year’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration at the university is “Keep Moving Forward.”
