On Day 4 of his trial on rape charges, a Bigler Township supervisor was acquitted today.

The defendant’s shoulders started heaving and his attorney was patting him on the back as he heard the multiple not guilty verdicts.

 

Robert Myers, 36, walked free after jurors found him not guilty on all 80 charges he was facing. The jury of eight women and four men took about two hours to deliver their verdict, which came in around noon.

“I ain’t got nothing to say. Let’s go,” says Myers.

“We’re very pleased with the verdict. We think justice was served here in this trial. Quite honestly, as we said throughout this case, the story just didn’t add up,” says defense attorney C.J. Zwick.

 

For three days, jurors heard evidence and Myers himself testified on Wednesday, denying all allegations.

 

Myers was first charged last November, not long after winning a race as township supervisor.

 

Records show he’s been out on bail since December. Now, the specter of this case hanging over him is gone.

“If it was properly investigated from the start, then we think that could have all been avoided, but it wasn’t. And, it was tried and a jury of 12 of his peers saw that story first-hand,” says Zwick.

 

Myers now returns home to Madera and will continue representing his neighbors.

“He’s going to continue to serve in his capacity of Bigler Township supervisor and continue to serve those people in Bigler Township,” says Zwick.

 

Myers had been accused of having sex with a teen for three years. Some other people in the courtroom were also crying. Zwick and Leanne Nedza were the defense team, DA William Shaw was the prosecutor, and Judge Paul Cherry presided.

 

We saw several jurors leaving, but neither they nor Myers wanted to talk about the verdict.
