Clearfield County Commissioner John Sobel says the county’s tourism board is looking to move forward after a re-organization with new officers this week.
Bed-and-breakfast owner Terri Cunkle of Clearfield is the new chair, with Mark Burnett of DuBois Comfort Suites as vice-chair.
Clearfield Historical Society vice-president Susan Williams also joined the board on Wednesday. The secretary is Commissioner Mark McCracken and the treasurer is travel agent Bonnie Robinson-Harper.
Four others — Kenn Starr, Izen Lingenfelter, Hildred Rowles, and Randy Schmidt — had resigned recently. All three commissioners are currently on the board, and there are at least two vacancies.
The board spent nearly two hours in executive session for personnel and legal issues on Wednesday.
They then voted not to call in part-time employees, to drop from 12 to 9 members, and to rescind the by-laws.
“There was some thought on the part of some previous board members that by-laws held a superior position to state law, which is not correct,” says Sobel, who was chairman for the meeting.
Two solicitors, for CCRTA and the county, will now draw up an agreement for the county to take over paying the CCRTA employees.
Executive Director Holly Komonczi is currently suspended, but is set to return next Friday.
