Ticket blitz to target seatbelt violators

Police are warning drivers to buckle up as they hit the roads this Thanksgiving holiday.

PennDOT says 150 police agencies statewide will have an extra focus on seatbelt tickets through Dec. 4.

Ten area Pizza Huts operated by ARC Restaurants will also give out safety dittos for kids.

In Sandy Township, police say they’re getting a $1,300 grant from PennDOT to pay for the extra traffic enforcement.

“There’s fewer injuries if you’re wearing your seatbelt, plus fatalities if the accident’s bad enough,” says Sandy Twp. Police Chief Don Routch. “A lot of accidents in the area occur when people are thrown out of their vehicles. They wouldn’t be thrown out if they were wearing their belts.”

A total of 413 people who died in Pennsylvania crashes last year weren’t wearing seat belts at the time, according to a press release from PennDOT.

PennDOT spokeswoman Marla Fannin and police officers from four agencies were at DuBois Pizza Hut to announce this Click It or Ticket mobilization.
