Part of Interstate 80 was shut down for several hours in Union Township after a multi-vehicle, three-fatality crash.

It happened in the westbound lanes between the Brookville and Corsica exits, around Mile 75.

Several drivers were heading west across Pennsylvania, when suddenly they spotted an accident right in front of them.

“I seen the vehicle when it come across the median and hit them over here. That’s about when I had to hit the shoulder and get over out of the way,” says Tim Henry, a trucker from Tennessee.

Henry says it was a quick stop when he saw an accident around 6:30 p.m. on Monday on I-80. as he and other drivers pulled over.

The coroner confirmed his deputies were working a three-fatality crash. A firefighter told us children were being extricated. Police say three vehicles were involved.

“Yeah, I seen one coming across the median and the other one going up in the air,” says Henry.

“I don’t like to see something like this on the road,” says Michigan trucker Marjia Prakovic.

Onlookers gathered at a nearby overpass, watching the swarm of emergency vehicles. We spotted three helicopters taking other injured patients.

“It’s just kind of a mess. I’m kind of wondering how it happened on a straight stretch like that,” says Dennis Hoffman from Brookville.

While some tried to figure out what was holding them up, Henry said even after an hour and a half wait, he’d already seen enough.

“Upsetting to see. That’s pretty bad. That’s the reason I didn’t go any further down because I didn’t care to see any more,” says Henry.

“Thoughts and prayers for the families,” says one onlooker.

The highway in the westbound direction remained closed into the night as police investigated the crash.
