Thousands flood U.S. Capitol for miner rally

125 buses full of retired coal miners have descended upon the nation’s Capitol.

In Union Square, approximately ten thousand people, including coal miners, spouses, lawmakers and even some supporters from other unions are there to fight for their promised pensions and healthcare.

One coal miner said the plan is to keep fighting. He says one way or another, money will run out from their pensions. So, they  plan to use some in the fight to keep the pension and healthcare plan promised to them 70 years ago.

They tell us they believe this could easily be resolved at no price to taxpayers. They say there are millions of appropriated dollars sitting in an unused mine reclamation fund that could pay their pensions until the economy hopefully takes a positive turn.
