What started as a small custard stand in Duncansville in the 1950’s has turned into an international business.

“It’s been a favorite of mine all my life,” said Jeff Horne, customer. “I was born and raised here in Hollidaysburg. I can’t begin to say enough about the Meadows.”

People keep coming back for more of the frozen custard that The Meadows has been dishing out for decades.

Steven Gardner is the franchise president and worked in the shop when he was in high school.  For years, franchises are been popping up on the east coast, but the next location is opening in Australia.

“It’ll be very interesting. The first one outside of the country I don’t know if we’re going to have anybody come into the store that from Blair County. We’ll see if that happens, but every time we open up a Meadows location there’s an underlying theme and customers are excited about it and once they get that product in their mouth they come back,” said Gardner.

It’s an expansion the original Meadows family is proud of.

“It’s something that I don’t know that we ever anticipated but as the franchise has grown it’s been accepted in many of the states that we’ve moved into now and now we’re moving to Australia,” said partner, Joel Meadows.

The Australia store is set to open sometime in October.
