It’s back to school week for students across our region.

One area high school is seeing a lot of changes this year, thanks to a major ongoing construction project.

About 2,300 students attend State High. This year, about two-thirds of them will occupy the school’s North building. The district added new trailers to both the North and South buildings to compensate for lost classroom space.

Those temporary classrooms aren’t quite ready for students due to late arriving required access ramps. The district expects those to be up and running in two weeks.

Despite the continuous construction, the school’s principal expects the transition to be relatively smooth.

“Each year, it gets a little more challenging, but we’re still maintaining the course and we’re looking forward to a new high school,” Principal Curtis Johnson said. “Our students are very courageous and they go with the punches, they’re very flexible….I trust in my staff and my faculty to make the transitions necessary to keep the focus on learning.”

The district is keeping an updated blog to inform the community about the latest construction changes.
