State Police are warning Pennsylvanians over the age of 65 to beware of scams.

One in particular is the “grandson-granddaughter in jail” tactic, where a victim is told their grandchild was arrested and jailed on a DUI charge.

Victims are then asked to purchase gift cards over the phone and provide the scammer with the gift card’s information for bail money.

State Police at Rockview have been contacted by two separate victims over this particular scam.

One victim was scammed out of $23,000 and the other out of $8,000 dollars.

If you think you are a victim of this scam or have been targeted, State Police ask that you write down the phone number if it’s available and call police.
