Pennsylvania State Police announced the statistics for their traffic enforcement from December 23rd to the 26th.

Troopers arrested 314 people for driving under the influence. That total is a 44 percent increase from 2015 where there were 218 DUI arrests.

State police also investigated 661 crashes over the holiday. This is up from 2015’s total of 632. Of the 661 collisions this year, 50 involved alcohol, 201 people were injured, and two people were killed. The 50 alcohol involved crashes are down form the 54 in 2015 however only 153 people were injured in 2015 compared to the 201 this year.

As Pennsylvanians head into their New Year’s celebrations, State Police encourage people to download the SaferRide app that provides a simple interface to call a taxi or a trusted friend for a safe ride home if you’ve had too much to drink. Police will continue to step up patrols throughout the holiday.
