One local town in our region is receiving some recognition for its push for entrepreneurs.

More than 2,000 cities within the United States were ranked and narrowed down to the top 50 best cities to start a business. State College was placed in the 10th spot.

The Entrepreneur Magazine is responsible for the list. They based their rankings on 17 different economic indicators for 2,200 cities with populations greater than 20,000 people. Those factors include things like business and employment growth, business tax rates and funding and support.

Centre County Commissioner Mark Higgins said this designation is a big deal.

“This is major. This is hopefully going to allow more Penn State students to stay here, put us on the radar for venture capital firms and improve good paying jobs,” Higgins said.

State College is the only city in Pennsylvania to make the top 50 list.
