While we welcome the first day of spring, homeowners are urged to look at their insurance coverage for flooding.
Pennsylvania’s Insurance Commissioner, Teresa Miller said as things warm up and snow melts, the next few weeks are prime time for flooding.
Centre County was hit with major flooding last fall.
In response, Governor Wolf’s administration said everyone should be prepared.
They created a new web page with a list of insurance options and grant money available for possible flood damage.
From private policies to the National Flood Insurance Program, Miller said everyone should know what’s out there.
“Even if you don’t live in a higher risk flood area you may still want to consider flood insurance since we know in Pennsylvania, these areas flood. And there are more options today then there have been in the past,” Miller said.
She said the most people assume their home insurance covers flooding but that’s not typically the case.
