The Centre Region Senior Center is booming after its recent move to the Nittany Mall, but the price tag of the move is bigger than expected.

Representatives from Centre Region Parks and Recreation asked county commissioners for more money to help fund renovations for their permanent space in the mall.

The original estimate for renovations was $20 per square foot, but final costs come to $39 per square foot. The new space is about 7,000 square feet.

Officials said the center has seen an increase in participants since their move to the mall from downtown State College. They’re asking the Centre Region Council of Governments, county commissioners and Nittany Mall executives to help make up the cost, in addition to some funding by the Centre Region Parks and Recreation.
