The Spring Cove School District will vote next week to end their K-4 services at the end of the year.
The program was established two years ago as a kindergarten for 4 year-olds and not as a preschool. Spring Cove’s Superintendent Dr. Betsy Baker says due to increased needs in the K-12 education, the district won’t be able to afford the $350,000 to operate the program.
Dr. Baker says she wishes the district had the money to keep the program running.
“Ideally, if we had tons of money it would be wonderful,” said Dr. Baker.
“I don’t think any educator is going to downplay the value of early childhood education, everyone thinks that’s very important but at the same time our mission is to service our students in K through 12 education. If we were able to do that with the funding we have and have enough left over, that would be great,” said Dr. Baker.
