The Reynoldsdale State Fish Hatchery celebrated new renovations with an open house over the weekend. The renovations included a new water treatment plant to increase water quality coming out of the hatchery.
All types of activities were available for visitors including crafts and seeing the resident trout. The open house also celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
The manager at the fish hatchery, Harry Wade, has long time ties to the hatchery. He remembers going there as a kid and now that he works at there, he feels that he has come full circle. He explained, “The people back in the day used to provide me the fishing experience or the opportunity to come and look at the fish and now I’m doing that for them.” He continued by detailing the moment that makes his job special. He said, “Seeing a kid catch his first fish from a stream and knowing that you made that happen.”
Wade’s passion came early on when he first started working at the hatchery. He explained, “When I first started working at the hatchery, one of the older guys where I worked had a little fish in his hand and he said, ‘What do you see? Do you just see the fish, or the little kid catching the fish?’ So, that is something I got from that guy and I’ve always had that passion.”
The hatchery is open everyday from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.
