A group of Loeb Fellows from Harvard University are in Johnstown this weekend to address revitalizing options for the city’s floodwalls. They plan to discuss what has worked and what hasn’t worked in other cities.
Folks with Vision 2025 that are leading the project say the riverwalls aren’t attractive, they’re not environmentally friendly and they’re cutting Johnstown off from its river.
The project could take more than 15 years because they have to study the walls, design a plan and then start construction.
The Harvard team is made up of planners, designers, architects and landscape architects, which will allow them to bring different ideas forward on how to help update the riverwalls and bring the city into the 21st century.
They will be in town until Sunday, September 11.
