The man that led police on a high speed chase through Blair and Cambria Counties on Saturday remains behind bars.

Pennsylvania State Police say Brandon Krolick, 29, of Cherry Tree led police on a 17 mile pursuit that topped speeds of 100 mph and damaged a few police cruisers. The chase ended in a crash outside of Ebensburg.

No one was seriously hurt, even though at times Krolick was driving into oncoming traffic. State Police charged him with DUI, but also said he was driving with on a suspended license.

The number of people with suspended licenses and multiple DUI offenses may shock you.

This week legislators in Harrisburg are expected to vote on Senate Bill 290.  It would require all first time DUI offenders to install an ignition interlock device in their vehicles. Half of the states in the United States already require it and statistics show it saves lives.

“It is Senate and House leadership responsibility to move forward and pass effective and comprehensive DUI reform,” said advocate Chris Demko.

Demko lost his daughter, Meredith, after she was struck and killed by a drunk driver in Lancaster County in 2014.

He recently formed the group Pennsylvania Parents Against Impaired Driving and is hopeful that legislation to make ignition interlock devices mandatory will make its way to the governor’s desk.

Thursday on WTAJ News at 11 p.m. we will take a closer look at this issue and how Pennsylvania ranks when it comes to DUI laws.  Our findings may shock you.
