A puppy found on the side of the road after reportedly being hit by a car is gaining love and support throughout one community. His name is Wyatt.

The puppy was found on the side of the road in Juniata County last weekend and right now, is getting treatment at Metzgar Animal Hospital, where vets say he has a long road ahead, but they remain hopeful for his future.

Rescuers believe Wyatt was hit by a car, as the 4-month old black lab-great dane mix is unable to use his tail or back legs.

“Given the severity of the injury, the odds are not really with him… most dogs like this end up completely paralyzed, but we’re still holding on hope that we can bring things around,” Dr. Robert Rider, a veterinarian at Metzgar Animal Hospital said.

Dr. Rider said that at this point, Wyatt’s received an injection into the broken areas and will have to undergo long-term therapy.

Kari Coble from the rescue group ‘One Dog at a Time’ stays by his side.

“There’s something about him when you look in his eyes, with his little eyelashes that it’s like he’s pleading ‘how did I end up this way? Why am i just laying here?'” Coble said.

As he heals, she’s hoping a loving family will come forward to take care of him.

“Touch ’em, you have to touch ’em!  You can talk to em all you want, but he’s gonna cry and whine,” Coble said. “You lay your hand on him and that’s all he cares about.”

The current bill for Wyatt is at about $3,100 and counting.

“I don’t think I would be that happy with a fractured spine, but he’s always trying to greet everyone, wants to be petted all the time, just a very sweet dog,” Dr. Rider said.

If you’d like to help the puppy, you can donate to the animal hospital.
