Penn State’s top leader is breaking his silence about the state budget impasse.

University President Dr. Eric Barron wrote a blog post about the stalemate, calling it “no small matter for Penn State.”

He said there are many ways the stalemate is impacting the university, including its ability to address Avian flu and move forward with several significant construction projects.

He called it a tragedy to use tuition dollars to pay interest on borrowing or to sell off investments just to cover the lack of a state appropriation, but said they’ll soon have no choice but to do so.
